City Clerk Duties and Responsibilities

For many communities, the position handles traditional duties such as completing council meeting minutes and public notices while also helping manage the city budget, accounting for city funds and filing various reports. Grant Management and Funding Sources
Grant funding can be the boost a city needs to complete a project or get a program off the ground. However, many cities struggle to find grant opportunities that fit with their funding needs and may not know the best way to complete a grant application. Hear tips for finding grants and best practices for completing successful grant applications.

This webinar also includes a tutorial on GrantFinder, a program offered to cities in Iowa through a League partnership that offers the largest searchable database of private, state and federal grants for municipalities and also gives users the ability to create grant calendars and alerts.

Annual Financial Report (AFR) Instructions
​Every city must file an Annual Financial Report with the Auditor of State​ by December 1. This electronic filing is done by uploading an Excel spreadsheet via the Auditor’s Web site. This multi-part on-demand webinar walks city officials through the completion of the AFR step-by-step. Those experienced with the AFR filing may want to focus on Part One that discusses the changes to the 2018 AFR. Others will want to view all the videos for a comprehensive walk-through.
